hi.
i'm just writing becaus i think that somewhere along the line we have not got our freedom of speech. i mean it seems that everyone's trying to voice there thorts at once and dosn't listen to the others.
there's no need for this. everyone thinks diffrently about things so if i want to go and post my opinion to something then i will.

Stargate, I'm not picking on you, but I'm curious what you mean by freedom of speech? I've noticed that it seems a lot of peple define it as being able to say anything you want to anyone you want at any time just because you can or it's your opinion and others have no right to react or criticize it because it's just a meaningless little nothing of an opinion. I don't believe people get it. My definition has more to do with criticizing your leaders than just how you act around people. Freedom of speech is not absolute, and you are not the only one who has that freedom. You might have the freedom to state an opinion, and I have the exact same freedom to tell you how wrong you are, hopefully without having things come to blows, although people love to drag things out to that point.

Did people actually tell you to your face that they didn't like your point of view, or is it just something you suspect? If it's just a fear, things may not be as they seem. Maybe people don't care about the topic at hand or whatnot. I don't know. I mean, I'd say my own point of view is very unpopular and totally goes against what most people believe, but I haven't received a scrap of hate mail for it, yet I don't go around grovelling and apologizing if I dare offend one hair on one head. What's up with that? I'm probably one of the squarest of square pegs on this site, as I'm much older than most posters, I'm agnostic, I'm a cynic and I'm a realist, and I say all of those things loud and proud with no apologies. I should be drummed out of here for not going along with the crowd, yet this has not happened.

i know now at least 3 or 4 people are not listening to my opinion but there are still a lot of people here i can trust in.
the thing is stargate your talking about 2 different things here essentually. yes you do have the right to say what you wish on this sight. you can't say that you don't have freedom of speach because i've seen your posts and they are all there. they haven't been edited and nobody has told you to reframe from posting them. equally though nobody has to listen to what you say, or indeed agree with a word of it. that is there right. there right not to listen to you if they wish! there right not to agree with you if they wish. you can't say that you don't have freedom of speach though just because others choose not to listen or agree with you though. that doesn't follow.

I think Harp has it right on. If you are being ignored, don't let it bother you. Don't expect everyone to like you or pay attention to you on this site or in real life. I know I don't like absolutely everybody here and some topics, many in fact, I do not respond to becasue I don't care about them. I can take or leave anything that goes on here. But I just don't think there is any move on the part of those in power on this site to silence you or others unless they purposely intend to stir up trouble or are harmful to other Zoners.
hmm, well, sometimes, I don{t repply to posts that are somewhat dismal to me, but it doesn't mean I am not listenning. Or am ignoring the posts...
1. I do not think your opiniion is not welcome. Not at all. ON contrary, I have to agree in some point. Some people attack others because they don't agree or someone else said something the other one doesn'T like. It's all right. i like your board posts generally.

well, I think sometimes people take freedom of speech too far, I mean they feel they have the right to attack others posts, because it's their right to freedom of speech, and I think it's something they feel they have the right to, but you don't unless you agree with them. I'm pretty much a loner on here because of my age, but that's just the way it is. For the very reason you mentioned, I've just about stopped bringing up topics in everything now except the geeks board. If I see a post in the rant board or the lets talk board that I can identify with, or if I sympathize with the poster, I now only reply only once, because for one thing, most people don't seem to be replying to anyone in particular when they reply anyway, and if someone is a bit mean and obnoxious in his or her post, or bossy, pushy, whatever, then I reply with a comeback, they reply with another mean comment, and so on it goes. Then people start telling me and others in the topic to shut up, and things get heated. So, I don't know much about what anyone says about me anymore, because I have some people on ignore, I rarely if ever turn on public quicknotes, except to test something out, and I will only reply to a post once in someones topic, to offer an oppinion, sympathy, prospective, what have you, then I won't go back and read anyone's replies. after all, I didn't start the topic, and it deprives some people of their favorite pass time, bashing, lol. So if people who don't like your topics don't respond to them, you may be lucky, because then at least your posts aren't being shot down.

Agreed, Wonderwoman.
My question is, by refusing to post certain things because people might put you down, or out of the fear of it, what do you really gain? Have those who put you down actually gained an advantage this way? By giving into pressure, are you not saying your enemies win and are perfectly OK for doing what they did? an advantage this way?
Good point Labyrinth. I am about to learn to ignore (in my mind) personal attacks via the net. I just think "let them talk". And I post what I want to.
Good for you. Most people who attack probably don't really mean it and are just doing it because they expect a reaction. Refuse to give them the reaction they want.
Or they seek for attention or just are bored. Lol.
